We Deserve to Work

On November 18, 19 and 20th over 600 people gathered at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster to see the production of We Deserve to Work. We Deserve to Work was researched, created, and acted by a team of self advocates with disabilities and theatre artists supported by the Community Living Society, Canadian Institute for Inclusion and Citizenship, and Massey Theatre to better understand and share stories about the rights of people with disabilities to find and keep meaningful employment – and some obstacles they encounter along the way. Funding for this project was provided by the Vancouver Foundation.
It was a fantastice three days, with a celebratory evening on the Saturday night, attended by many dignitaries including: Minister Nicholas Simmons, Parliamentary Secretary Dan Coulter, Mayor Patrick Johnstone, Councilors Nadine Nakagawa and Tasha Henderson, and Ross Chilton CEO of CLBC.
If you missed this production, there will be more in the Spring, including at the World Supported Employment Conference in June, 2023.
