Community Inclusion
This service is designed for individuals who require ongoing support to participate in community. The programs supports the person to be involved and participate in a way that is meaningful to them. The support occurs outside the individual participants’ homes (community based), through a community embedded program, or with 1:1 support through Individualized Supports, or may operate within the individual participants’ homes (home based community Inclusion). The services will support the person to find employment, volunteering, and social/recreational opportunities tailored to the needs and desires of each person.
Every person that joins a centre-based Community Inclusion team can expect to be with a small group of other people and 2 or three staff. They will meet at a small location intended to just be a meeting place. People that attend are often paired up each day with another person and share a staff. Staff support both people to have a meaningful and purposeful day based on each individuals’ goals and preferences of activities. All activities and goals will take place or be worked on outside of this meeting place and in the community. Each location is “Community imbedded” meaning it is near a transit hub or Skytrain station and has easy access to Community centres, libraries, opportunities for, employment, socializing and volunteering and near recreation centres.
